When the Murphysboro Apple Festival began, Bert and Carolyn Ozburn were in high school.

That gives them a perspective few people can offer. They remember when the festival was something new and exciting—and they’ve had the remarkable experience of watching it become a tradition that has lasted 75 years.

Along the way, the Apple Festival became part of their own family story, too. Their spot outside the Ozburn Agency on Walnut Street has been a place to gather with their children and grandchildren, year after year.

What I love about Bert and Carolyn’s story is the span of it. They can take us back to the beginning while reminding us what 75 years of tradition really looks like.
